Nature of services

Joe's SMP Studio provides scalp micropigmentation (SMP), a cosmetic tattooing procedure that deposits pigment into the dermal layer of the scalp to replicate the appearance of hair follicles. SMP is classified as a cosmetic procedure under Ohio law and is regulated under the Ohio Administrative Code (OAC 3701-9) governing body art establishments.

SMP is not a medical treatment, surgery, or hair transplant. It does not stimulate hair growth, cure hair loss, or treat any medical condition. Nothing on this website or communicated by the studio should be interpreted as medical advice. Always consult a qualified physician regarding health concerns related to hair loss or scalp conditions.

Eligibility

• You must be at least 18 years of age to receive SMP services.
• A valid government-issued photo ID is required at your first appointment.
• You must fully and honestly disclose your complete medical history, current medications, allergies, and skin conditions during your consultation and before each session.
• A signed informed consent form is required before any procedure begins. The consent form covers the procedure description, risks, aftercare obligations, and result variability.
• Clients with certain medical conditions may require written physician clearance before treatment can proceed. See our Care & Safety page for a full list of contraindications.

Appointments and cancellation

• All SMP sessions are by appointment only. A non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your appointment slot.
• 48-hour cancellation policy: If you need to cancel or reschedule, you must notify us at least 48 hours before your scheduled appointment. Cancellations made with 48 or more hours' notice will receive a full deposit refund or the deposit may be applied to a rescheduled appointment.
• Cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice will result in forfeiture of the deposit.
• No-shows (failure to appear without prior notice) will result in full forfeiture of the deposit.
• We reserve the right to refuse or discontinue service at any time if we determine it is not in the client's best interest due to health, safety, or suitability concerns.

Payment terms

• SMP services are priced per session. Current pricing is listed on our Services page.
• Payment is due in full at the time of each session.
• We accept cash, major credit cards, and debit cards.
• Financing options may be available. Ask during your consultation for details.
• The deposit paid at booking is applied toward the cost of your first session.

Results disclaimer

SMP results vary from person to person depending on skin type, skin tone, degree of hair loss, scalp condition, lifestyle factors, and adherence to pre- and post-care instructions. All photos on this website are from actual clients and represent typical results, but they do not guarantee that your results will be identical.

SMP pigment is semi-permanent. It will naturally fade over time (typically 3–5 years) and periodic touch-up sessions are recommended to maintain optimal results. Factors that accelerate fading include sun exposure, tanning beds, certain skincare products, and individual skin chemistry.

While SMP can be lightened through laser treatment, full removal is not guaranteed. Clients should consider SMP a long-term cosmetic commitment.

Photo and media release

With your written consent, Joe's SMP Studio may photograph or video-record your treatment and results for use on our website, social media, marketing materials, and portfolio. Your face will not be shown in any published media without your explicit permission.

Participation in the photo release is entirely voluntary. You may opt out at any time by notifying us in writing, and we will remove any identifiable media within a reasonable timeframe.

Limitation of liability

• Joe's SMP Studio's maximum liability for any claim arising from SMP services shall not exceed the total amount paid by the client for the specific treatment in question.
• The studio is not liable for adverse outcomes resulting from the client's failure to disclose medical conditions, medications, or allergies, or from the client's failure to follow pre- or post-procedure care instructions.
• The studio is not liable for delays, cancellations, or service interruptions caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, pandemics, utility failures, or government orders.
• By receiving services, you acknowledge that you have been informed of the risks, benefits, and alternatives, and that you voluntarily consent to the procedure.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio. Any disputes arising from these terms or from services rendered shall be resolved in the courts of Cuyahoga County, Ohio. By booking and receiving services, you agree to this jurisdiction.

Changes to these terms

Joe's SMP Studio reserves the right to update these terms at any time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of our services after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
